With a global perspective and background in psychology, Laura explores how stories shape the way we understand people, systems, and the world around us.


Laura Smythe has traveled 29 countries across the globe, developing a culturally diverse worldview and documenting the stories of diverse communities in hopes of helping people understand each other and the world around them a little better.

With a background in and passion for psychology, Laura approaches her work through a trauma-informed lens. She has an eye for how sociology affects journalism and the media ecosystems that govern our world today.

With experience in both legacy newsrooms like Forbes and Philadelphia Business Journal and experience working with “new media” content creators and influencers, Laura brings a unique perspective on how various media formats function and advises on how to bridge the gaps. Ultimately, her goal is to create a more impactful, enhanced journalism structure for our modern digital era.

She is a First Amendment advocate and believes fully in journalism’s commitment to telling the truth.
